The centre grew out of a caretaker's cottage on land above the Pharping caves, kept for years by a family who fed the pilgrims walking up to meditate. They added a handful of rooms and a small hall, and now host silent retreats under the same forest canopy. Phones are handed in at the gate; the loudest sound is usually the wind in the pines.
